I was uninstalling an application that I have no longer needed. When I tried to perform uninstalling the application, it was not completed successfully. When I rebooted the system the application was still running in the system tray. I guess there are some registry keys that are not getting removed when I was uninstalling the program. Please give your suggestion on how can I completely remove the registry keys from the PC.

Answer 1 All the programs that are currently installed in your computer will be listed in the Add or remove tool list. It has been seen that some programs does not completely remove and the registry kwy that is used to display the program in the currentlu Installed programs list remains. In this situation you may need to manually remove the application from the currently installed programs list in Add or Remove programs. Before starting it you need to create a backup of your registry because one wrong step can make serious problems that might be unsolved. You can read about how to backup and restore the registry in windows by visiting http://support.microsoft.com/kb/322756 link.
The steps for manually uninstall registry keys are:
- Click on Start > Run and type regedt32 and press OK
- Find the registry key
- “ HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SOFTWARE\\Microsoft\\Windows\\CurrentVersion\\Uninstall ”
- In the left pane click on the Uninstall the registry key and then click on Export on the File Menu
- In the Export Registry File dialog box, click Desktop in the Save in list and type Uninstall in the File Name box and click on Save
- You can see that there are a list of registry keys listed in the current installed programs list of Add or Remove Programs Tool. To select your program from the list navigate through all the keys and check the values like DisplayName (shows the name of the program that is listed in the Add or Remove Programs) and UninstallString (value data for the uninstallString to uninstall the program)
- After identifying the registry key that represents the programs that you removed but that is still displayed in the Currently Installed Programs list of Add or Remove Programs, just right click on the left pane of Registry Editor and click on Delete. Click on Yes when the “are you sure …” message come
- Go to File > Exit to quit Registry Editor
- Now click Start > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs. You can see that the program registry key that you have deleted is no longer listed there.
- If there are any problems and the program is still in the list then you need to double click on the Uninstall.reg to restore original list of programs in the registry and if everything is completed successfully as expected then you can delete the Uninstall.reg file from your desktop
These steps are not simple for a novice user so if you are not a real technical person then it is better to use some other uninstaller programs that are programmed to uninstall various applications that may or may not working properly on your PC and giving these kind of registry problems.
